Occupational Therapist Job Requirements

• At least 1 year of occupational therapy experience; hospital or rehabilitation experience is strongly preferred
• Valid, current Occupational Therapist license in the applicable state
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Strong clinical judgment, communication, organization, and clinical documentation skills
• Ability to collaborate effectively with patients, families, caregivers, and interdisciplinary healthcare team members
• Commitment to patient safety, confidentiality, quality patient care, and professional standards

Occupational Therapist Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients’ functional abilities and occupational performance based on physician orders and individual clinical needs
• Develop and implement individualized occupational therapy treatment plans based on assessment findings and patient and family goals
• Provide skilled occupational therapy interventions and adjust treatment approaches as patients progress
• Educate patients and caregivers about home exercise programs, adaptive equipment, safety techniques, and continued functional improvement
• Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, team conferences, family meetings, and discharge planning
• Recommend appropriate durable medical equipment and assist with placement, transition, and discharge needs
• Complete timely evaluations, progress notes, treatment documentation, caregiver training records, and discharge summaries
• Promote safe patient handling, infection prevention, fall prevention, and a safe work environment
• Supervise Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants, students, and other assigned personnel as appropriate
• Support continuous quality improvement while maintaining a professional, patient-centered approach
