Registered Respiratory Therapist Job Requirements

• At least 1 year of recent respiratory therapy experience, preferably in a hospital or acute-care setting
• Current Respiratory Therapist credential, including Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credentials when required, and applicable Iowa licensure or eligibility to practice
• Ability to provide proof of licensure and professional credentials
• Strong respiratory assessment, communication, critical-thinking, and patient-care skills
• Ability to work 12-hour day shifts and every other weekend as scheduled
• Successful completion of required clinical competency, employment, and facility compliance processes

Respiratory Therapist Responsibilities

• Assess, monitor, and treat patients with respiratory conditions across the hospital
• Deliver respiratory therapies and treatments in accordance with provider orders and established clinical protocols
• Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain respiratory equipment, including oxygen delivery and ventilatory support systems
• Assist with airway management, respiratory emergencies, and other procedures within the scope of practice
• Collect and interpret relevant patient data, document respiratory care accurately, and communicate changes in condition to the clinical team
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to support safe, high-quality patient outcomes
• Educate patients and families on respiratory treatments, equipment, and care plans when appropriate
