NICU Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- At least 1 year of recent full-time equivalent nursing experience within the past 3 years
- Recent experience in a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in California
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Advanced Neonatal Resuscitation certification or program completion
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Strong clinical judgment and the ability to provide compassionate care in a high-acuity neonatal environment
- Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or seven years of recent Level III NICU experience
NICU Registered Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide specialized nursing care to critically ill and premature newborns in a Level III NICU
- Perform comprehensive assessments, monitor clinical status, and identify changes in condition
- Administer medications and treatments according to established protocols and provider orders
- Support neonatal resuscitation and respond effectively to urgent clinical situations
- Collaborate with neonatologists, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, and the interdisciplinary care team
- Educate and support parents and families throughout the infant’s hospitalization
- Document patient care accurately and communicate essential clinical information during handoffs
- Maintain a safe, developmentally supportive, and family-centered care environment
