PACU Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse license eligible for practice in Texas
- At least 1 year of recent PACU, post-operative, critical care, or closely related nursing experience
- Demonstrated ability to assess and monitor patients recovering from anesthesia
- Strong clinical judgment, communication, patient-safety, and post-operative nursing skills
- Ability to work on-site and complete required assignment orientation and compliance requirements
PACU RN Responsibilities
- Receive and assess patients transitioning from the operating room or procedural areas
- Monitor airway status, vital signs, level of consciousness, pain, nausea, and surgical-site concerns
- Recognize and respond promptly to post-anesthesia complications and changes in patient condition
- Administer medications and treatments in accordance with provider orders and nursing standards
- Provide thorough patient assessments, documentation, and ongoing reassessments throughout recovery
- Coordinate safe handoffs and determine readiness for discharge or transfer to the next level of care
- Collaborate with anesthesia providers, surgeons, nurses, and interdisciplinary care teams
- Educate patients and families regarding recovery instructions and ongoing care needs
