Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Stepdown in Mechanicsville, VA
Travel RN opportunity in Mechanicsville, Virginia, a welcoming community just outside Richmond, where you can join a cardiac medical step-down team and provide high-acuity patient care in a fast-paced Progressive Care Unit. This 13-week nursing assignment is ideal for an experienced Registered Nurse who is confident caring for complex adult and geriatric patients.

- Setting: Cardiac Medical Step-Down / Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Location: Mechanicsville, VA 23116
- Start Date: 9/28/2026
- Duration: 13 weeks
- Shift Duration: 12-hour nights
- Shifts per Week: 3
- Weekly Hours: 36 hours
- Estimated Weekly Pay: $2,020 – $2,130
- Schedule: Every other weekend and major holiday coverage required
Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- Current RN license in the state of practice or compact state eligibility
- Minimum of 1 year of Registered Nurse experience required
- 1 year of experience in an acute care hospital setting preferred
- BLS required; ACLS required within 6 months of hire
- NIH Stroke Certification preferred
- Ability to pass an EKG exam at orientation
- Proficiency with lab draws required
- Experience with cardiac drips, BiPAP, insulin drips, and cardiac rhythm monitoring preferred
Progressive Care Unit Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to PCU and step-down patients with cardiac, surgical, renal, and respiratory needs
- Perform ongoing assessments, develop care plans, implement interventions, and evaluate patient outcomes
- Administer medications safely and accurately in accordance with clinical standards and hospital policies
- Monitor cardiac rhythms, manage drips and titrations, and respond quickly to changing patient conditions
- Support patients requiring BiPAP, conscious sedation, and advanced respiratory support
- Coordinate care with interdisciplinary team members and communicate effectively with patients and families
- Maintain patient safety, infection control, and high standards of professional nursing practice
- Adapt quickly in a high-acuity environment while delivering compassionate, evidence-based care
